Classification of loads related to building structures

Classification of loads related to building structures

1. The loads on the structure can be categorized into three types:

a.Permanent loads, such as structural deadweight, earth pressure, prestressing, etc.

b.Variable loads, e.g. floor live loads, roof live loads and accumulated dust loads, crane loads, wind loads,

snow load, etc.

c.incidental loads, such as explosive force, impact force, etc..

Note: Self-weight is the load generated by the weight of the material itself (gravity).

2. In the design of building structures, different representative values shall be used for different loads.

For permanent loads, standard values shall be used as representative values, and for variable loads, standard values, combined values, frequency values or quasi-permanent values shall be used as representative values according to the design requirements. For occasional loads, the representative value should be determined according to the characteristics of the use of the building structure.
