Key Maintenance Points for Steel Structures After Commissioning

1. Do not place heavy objects on specific areas of steel roof structures

Since the structure is designed to withstand specific load requirements, the specifications of steel members and joints are determined based on these design loads. Therefore, placing objects that exceed the design load limits on the steel structure during use is strictly prohibited, as this will cause irreversible damage to the structure.

2. Regular Corrosion Prevention During Use

The typical design life of a steel structure is 50 years. The likelihood of structural failure due to overloading during use is very low; most damage is caused by corrosion. Corrosion significantly reduces the cross-sectional area of steel structural members, leading to a substantial decline in their mechanical and physical properties.

The external coating protection of steel structures must meet the requirements for their use. Generally, maintenance should be performed every three years, involving the removal of dust, rust, and other contaminants from the surface before repainting.

Steel Structure Coating Maintenance Procedures:

1. The surface of the steel structure must be kept clean and dry; areas prone to dust accumulation should be cleaned regularly;

2. Regularly inspect the condition of the steel structure coating. Maintenance should be performed promptly if any of the following conditions occur:

90% of the coating surface has lost its gloss;

25% of the coating surface is rough, weathered, or cracked;

The coating exhibits blistering, and the area of the topcoat showing minor rust on the components reaches 40%

3. Avoid contact between components and corrosive substances as much as possible

The type and specifications of paint used for coating maintenance should match the original paint. If different paints are used and they are incompatible, this may cause greater damage. Therefore, steel structures must undergo planned, regular maintenance and upkeep during their service life.
